Welcome to the Phonox Blog

Updated:

Welcome to the official Phonox blog! Phonox is an open-source, AI-powered assistant built specifically for vinyl record collectors. Whether you’re cataloguing a small personal library or managing hundreds of records, Phonox gives you powerful tools without the limitations of platforms like Discogs.

What is Phonox?

Phonox is an intelligent vinyl collection manager. Point your camera at an album cover or barcode, and Phonox does the rest:

  • 📸 Identify records from photos — album covers, barcodes, or the vinyl itself
  • 💰 Automatic valuations pulled from Discogs and MusicBrainz
  • 🎵 Spotify integration — find and save listening links for your records
  • 📝 Full collection management — metadata, condition notes, ratings, and personal notes
  • 💬 Chat with your collection — ask your AI agent “What’s my rarest record?” or “Show me all jazz from the 70s”

Everything runs locally via Docker, so your data stays yours. An Anthropic Claude API key powers the AI agent, and an optional Tavily key enables deeper web searches (DuckDuckGo works as a free fallback).

Jan-Michael Müggenburg
For years, I wanted an easy way to manage my collection without investing too much time in cataloguing. With AI now part of everyday life, the idea was simple: why not let AI handle the work — and even make it possible to chat with my records? I wanted the experience to be as convenient as possible, whether on a PC or a mobile device, even while enjoying a record. That's how Phonox came to life. Enjoy using it!
